Feeding Your Way - Clothing Tips and Kindness for the Early Days
Because however you feed your baby, you're doing it with love.
Feeding a newborn isn’t just a practical need – it’s emotional, hormonal, exhausting, and sometimes, incredibly complicated. Whether you're breastfeeding, bottle feeding, doing a bit of both, or still figuring it out... it’s all okay.
At Mini Cuddles, we believe there's no one right way, just the way that works for you and your baby.
First, let’s say this:
If breastfeeding feels hard, you're not alone. If bottle feeding was the best choice for your body, your baby, or your peace of mind, that’s perfectly fine.
Feeding is not a measure of how much you love your baby. You’re showing up. That’s more than enough.
Hormones in those first few weeks are no joke. You might cry, doubt yourself, feel incredible one moment and heartbroken the next. That’s not failure. That’s your body doing a big, beautiful, emotional thing.
Feeding-Friendly Clothing for Baby
Whether you’re doing breast or bottle, the right clothing helps make those sleepy feeds a little simpler:
- Sleepsuits with front poppers or zips – easy to open for mid-feed nappy changes
- Soft bodysuits with envelope necklines – ideal for wiggly arms and sleepy dressing
- Layering pieces like cotton hoodies – help keep baby warm without overheating
- Muslins and swaddles – keep one on hand for burping, spills, or tucking over your shoulder
Breastfeeding Tips (if you're doing it)
- Keep water nearby. Feeding is thirsty work.
- Try button-down tops for easier access, especially when you're out or tired.
- Cluster feeding is normal, it doesn’t mean you’re not producing enough.
- Your baby might want to feed constantly for comfort. That's okay.
Bottle Feeding Tips (if you're doing it)
- You’re still bonding – eye contact, cuddles, and calm matter just as much.
- Prep a feeding caddy with formula, bottles, muslins, and spare bibs to keep things calm and close by.
- Let someone else take a night shift if they can – rest helps your recovery too.
A Gentle Reminder
There’s no perfect way to feed a baby, only a loving one. You’re doing a beautiful job. And if you’re struggling, please know that so many others are too. You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re just new to this. And that’s okay.
Wrap yourself in patience. Wrap your baby in softness. We’re here to make the everyday moments feel just a little lighter.
